Daily Positive Thoughts: May 11, 2013 : Am I Happy?

Daily Positive Thoughts: May 11, 2013

Am I Happy?

If there is any sadness I make a strong effort to be free of it quickly, otherwise it grows like a vine in the rainy season: by midday I will be confused; by evening a whole jungle of weak, wasteful and negative attitudes will have taken deep roots in my mind. The result equals chaos. Sometimes I reach a stage where the attitude is: "So what if I feel the blues today? It is my life; no one else will be affected". Firstly, the more I allow myself to experience sorrow, the less time I have available to be happy and contented. It sounds ridiculously obvious, but am I aware of the value of happiness? It is an extremely rare commodity, and the cost goes sky high. Secondly, is it my life? Yes, I am living it, but am I not a member of a family or a co-worker with others, and am I not part of society? If so, then every movement affects and is affected by those around me.
The practical application and benefits of meditation show up in our
interpersonal relationships. As our inner peace and positivity are
regained by the regular practice of meditation, we find it easier to
resolve (clear up) conflict, remain open, communicate honestly with
others and finally be of help to others through the quality of the
company we are able to give. There are also many physical benefits,
which can result from the continuous practice of meditation.
Meditation has a deeply relaxing and calming effect on the nervous
system, balancing physical energies, allowing the body to function
more effectively while improving its ability to heal itself. This can
result in reduced blood pressure, an increase in fitness; better sleep
patterns and greater pain control.
Letting Go Of The Past

The influence of the past on our personality, hopes and fears is deep, and difficult to trace. The past is by definition a collection of memories. It is also the journey on which we have picked up the skills required in our day to day activities, because of which we tend to believe that remembering the past will help, sustain (strengthen) and protect us. There are certainly great benefits in learning from our past mistakes, but too much attachment to the past can damage present satisfaction.

Many of us are very worried about avoiding past disaster, even to the extent that we forget how to enjoy the present or how to hope positively for the future. E.g. if we have been badly hurt by someone in the past, we may allow this to damage our self-esteem. We become worried that the unhappiness will occur again, because of which we see our current relationship with some other person with a negative frame of mind. As a result of that the negativity is reflected back at us. The relationship fails, which strengthens our belief in the past, and increases negative feelings about the future.
Soul Sustenance

Tuning The Mind, Intellect And Personality (‘Sanskars’)

The soul, is made up of three faculties - the mind, intellect and personality (‘sanskars’).In order to tune these to the highest degree of subtlety, precision and efficiency; we need to connect with the Supreme Soul, who is also a soul, just like us, but has a perfect mind and intellect along with perfect ‘sanskars’:

Mind - The Supreme Being or God is an embodiment of positivity –negative and waste do not find a place in his mind.

Intellect - He is also the purest living energy in the entire universe –he is the innocent Lord; a being of conscious light, who has never taken a body and thus never experienced the five vices – lust, anger, greed, ego and attachment.

‘Sanskars’ - God is the ocean of the basic virtues of the soul and of humanity – peace, love, bliss, joy, power and purity.

By this connection, gradually over a period of time, our mind, intellect and‘sanskars’ begin to become like his – mind becomes full of positivity; intellect begins to become pure and is able to take correct decisions so that right ‘karmas’ are performed and ‘sanskars’ become full of the virtues mentioned above.

Message for the day

To be free from worry means to have the power to change negative into positive.

Expression: The ones who are free from worry change that which is bad into something good, because the state of mind is calm. The one with a calm state of mind is able to think creatively and see very clearly even beyond the situation. So there is the ability to transform the seemingly negative situation into something very positive. So there is clear decision-making and quick action. There is also no time wasted.

Experience: When I am free from worry, I constantly remain satisfied for having seen the positive and finding the solutions immediately instead of looking at the problem and worrying over it. This internal silence gives the feeling of power, which naturally enables transformation in a second and only the goodness is absorbed.
